BATHINDA: A police officer was beaten to death when he and a police party went to resolve an altercation between four kabaddi players and the owner of an eatery in Barnala town, Punjab, on Sunday night.
The four players were reportedly dining on chicken at an eatery on a 22-acre area in Barnala when they got into a dispute with the eatery owner over the bill. When the players refused to settle the bill, the eatery owner called the police.
The police arrived at the scene and attempted to take the four individuals to the police station. However, they allegedly attacked Head Constable Darshan Singh.
The police officer suffered a head injury during the scuffle. He was quickly rushed to Barnala Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead.
It has been learned that there was a kabaddi tournament in the village of Raisar, and the players had participated in it earlier in the evening.
The police are actively searching for the accused individuals.
