CHANDIGARH: In a significant development, a local court framed criminal charges against three members of the "Cool Dude" gang, including the kingpin, Rattan Labana on Friday. They have been charged with robbery, common intention for committing crime and violation of Information Technology (IT) Act.
A detailed chargesheet against the gang members was filed in court on February 19.
Two other gang members included Amitoz and Rajveer Singh. The three accused were presented inside the courtroom when charges were framed against them. The accused were also provided with copies of chargesheets filed against them.
On January 19, Rattan Labana, Amitoz Singh and Rajveer Singh were arrested for blackmailing and extorting money from students after befriending them. The FIR under Section 392 (robbery), 34 (common intention) and 66A of Information Technology (IT) Act was registered at the Sector 26 police station. The accused used social updates of facebook accounts of victims to blackmail them.
Police said call details records (CDR), exchange of text messages between the accused and victims and pictures of accused with victims were also attached with the chargesheet. Sources in the district court said apart from the crucial evidence, a detailed report of the entire investigation was also attached with the chargesheet.
A senior police official said some of the victims already recorded their statements supporting the prosecution before a local court under Section 164 of the CrPC. The FIR was registered following the complaint of the principal of a leading school. The three accused were lodged at Model Burail Jail.
