Contractor pushes, threatens engineer

Chandigarh: A private

contractor

was on Saturday booked for allegedly manhandling and threatening an executive engineer of the UT administration after he found anomalies in construction work at a government school in Raipur Khurd.

In his complaint, Sukhbir Singh said he found the steel columns in the school at Makhanmajra not according to prescribed specifications during his inspection on August 10. He wrote this in the site order book. He alleged he received a threatening call on his mobile phone from the contractor, Rahul Kohli. The contractor told him that he should not point out any shortcomings in his work as no officers had ever done this, Sukhbir alleged.

The engineer said when was returning in his official jeep, Kohli blocked his way near the Makhanmajra turn. When the engineer alighted, Kohli held him from his collar. The engineer alleged that he threatened him that his legs and hands would be broken if he visited the site in future. Passers-by freed the engineer from his clutches.

Sukhbir informed the matter to the chief engineer and superintendent engineer over phone. He also brought the matter to the notice of the adviser, home secretary, and finance secretary. He claimed he did not get any response from them. He lodged a complaint at the Mauli Jagran police station.

Police registered a case under section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Gurvinder Singh, investigating officer, Mauli Jagran police station, said the police have been verifying the facts and accused would be arrested soon.
