KARNAL: A large number of Congressmen and party loyalists on Wednesday protested against the allotment of ticket to Arvind Sharma from the Karnal parliamentary seat by the party.

The protest was led by Kuldeep Sharma, son of Chiranji Lal Sharma who was four-time member of Parliament from the seat.
Kuldeep Sharma was amongst the ticketseekers for the seat.

Over 2,500 Congress workers and supporters gathered at the house of Kuldeep Sharma here and urged him to fight the polls as an independent candidate.

Chiranji Lal had submitted his resignation from the Congress a few days back. However, it is learnt that he did not press for acceptance of his resignation after counselling by Moti Lal Vohra, a veteran Congress leader.

But in Wednesday’s meeting, Chiranji Lal gave vent to his feelings of disenchantment and revolt against the party. Addressing the meeting, he said that the Congress high command had thrown his 50-year service to the party in dustbin while allotting ticket to Arvind Sharma. He alleged that an outsider who had no affinity with the Congress or its ideology had been preferred by the party against his family members.

<formid=526372></formid=526372>
