Chandigarh: The Punjab Congress on Tuesday set up four committees to plan for elections to four municipal corporations in the state next year. Each committee will comprise five members.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said the party had accorded priority to the elections to the MCs of Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar and Amritsar.
“Committees comprise leaders who include a former deputy chief minister and ministers,” he said, emphasising that the party will ensure it wins all four corporations.
The committee for Patiala comprises former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Kuljit Singh Nagra, Dr Amar Singh, Barindermeet Singh Pahra and Pawan Goyal. The Ludhiana committee comprises Rana Gurjit Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Vijay Inder Singla, Sukhwinder Singh Danny and Hardyal Singh Kamboj.
The Jalandhar committee consists of Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Santokh Singh, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Jugal Kishore Sharma. The committee for Amritsar consists of Rana K P Singh, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Gurjit Singh Aujla, Amit Vij and Pawan Adia. Election expenditure of candidates has been increased from Rs 2.07 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh, Class I councils from Rs 1.84 lakh to Rs 2.25 lakh, Class II town from Rs 1.15 lakh to Rs 1.40 lakh and Class III town from Rs 98000 to Rs 1.20 lakh.
