Cong, BJP, SAD question encounter
Chandigarh: Opposition parties Congress, BJP and SAD on Wednesday demanded a probe into the police encounter of a 19-year-old youth suspected to be involved in the Saturday night killing of two policemen in Gurdaspur's Adhian village, just 1km from Pak border. Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring demanded a probe by the CBI. In a post on social media, Warring questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident. He said Ranjit Singh, described as the only son of his family, was taken from his home around 4pm and was later killed in what police termed an encounter.
Warring alleged that serious concerns were raised by the family. According to him, Ranjit's mother claimed that the incident was a fake encounter and sought justice for her son, demanding that evidence related to the case be made public.Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia posted on X, "His mother alleges it was a fake encounter, seeking proof and justice for her son. Shiromani Akali Dal stands for justice and truth. Can guilt be declared without trial? Serious questions arise. I sought a CBI enquiry to ensure accountability and fairness for all sides. Justice must be delivered through law, not fear."Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, during a press conference in Chandigarh, said, "How should I believe if it was a genuine encounter or any poor chap was shot dead?" Jakhar said there was "total failure of the police apparatus" and "intelligence". He said things came to such a pass in terms of the law and order situation in the state that special DGP Arpit Shukla was being asked, "Who will guard the police?"
