Complainant gets Rs 2.69L car claim

CHANDIGARH: UT consumer forum directed ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited to pay Rs 2.69 lakh as accident claim along with interest to Kamini Sharma, a Sector 44 resident, as well as Rs 25,000 as compensation and Rs 5,000 litigation cost.
According to the complaint, Sharma got her car insured after making a payment of Rs 25,822 and the policy was valid for one year starting October 2006.
The car met with an accident on January 14, 2007, and suffered extensive damage. When Sharma moved a claim application her claim was repudiated, following which, she instituted a complaint under Consumer Protection Act.
In its reply, ICICI Lombard General Insurance pleaded that complainant paid the amount in cheque and they issued a cover note in the bona fide belief that her cheque will be honoured.
