College built with donations turned into private property by Birender Singh: BJP MLA
Jind: The BJP MLA from Uchana Kalan, Devender Chaturbhuj Attri, on Saturday accused former Union minister and Congress leader Birender Singh of deceitfully converting a college built over several acres into private property.Addressing a press conference here, Attri said many years ago, people of the constituency, including his father, collectively donated funds for an educational institution. However, the college built from those donations was turned into private property by the Birender Singh family.
He alleged that the land was purchased at throwaway prices. People donated land and money so that the institution could be run collectively for the benefit of the local population. But the family took possession of this land through a conspiracy, said the Uchana Kalan MLA.Attri also accused Birender Singh and his family of pushing the constituency backwards, whether it be education, development, or any other sector. He claimed that the family did no substantial work. This is a family that, after winning elections, does not show its face for an entire year, the legislator added.Commenting on the dismissal of the SLP in the Supreme Court, challenging the proceedings in the Punjab and Haryana high court on a petition against his election, Attri said it was a legal matter and whatever decision the court gives he would accept it.He added that all legal options were open to him as well as Brijendra Singh. Notably, Attri defeated Brijendra Singh by 32 votes in the 2024 Haryana assembly elections. Later, citing 215 invalid postal ballots and other grounds, Brijendra had approached the high court.Attri said he came from an ordinary family and was a simple party worker, and political dynasts like the Chautalas and the Birender Singhs could not digest. He claimed that in his short tenure, he worked to resolve constituency issues and brought projects like the industrial model township to Uchana. He said the public had now rejected political dynasts.Taking a jibe at Birender Singh, Attri said people called him the "lion of Bangar", whereas he was a "self-styled lion", who pushed the constituency backwards instead of taking it forward. The public has now rejected them, he added. He also mocked Brijendra Singh's statement during the Sadbhavna Yatra, where he said he felt blessed after losing because he became free, and if he had won, he would have been limited to Uchana.Brijendra Singh has not freed himself, but the people have made him free, Attri quipped. His actions were such that the public completely set him free, he said.Sajjan Singh, the protector of these institutions, termed the allegations baseless. He said Birender Singh College of Nursing was registered under a trust, in which no donations were taken, while Rajiv Gandhi College was registered under a society with 28 members.MSID:: 128036770 413 |
