Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann infected with leptospirosis

CHANDIGARH: Bhagwant Mann has tested positive for leptospirosis, as per the daily medical bulletin issued by a private hospital in Mohali where the chief minister is undergoing treatment since Wednesday night.

“As suspected at the time of admission for tropical fever, his blood tests for leptospirosis came back positive. The chief minister has already been put on appropriate antibiotics. All clinical features and pathological tests have shown satisfactory improvement,” stated the medical bulletin issued by Dr R K Jaswal, director and head of the hospital’s department of cardiology.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease caused by the bacterium Leptospira, which can be found in contaminated water or soil.

‘Signs of improvement’

Dr Jaswal said he examined the CM on Saturday and the latter had shown signs of significant improvement in his clinical parameters.

“CM Mann has also responded well to the treatment for increase in pulmonary artery pressure. At present, all vitals of the chief minister are completely stable,” he said.

Mann was admitted to the hospital with signs of inflammation in the pulmonary artery, which created pressure on the heart, and fluctuation in blood pressure.

Various tests were conducted to assess the CM’s health and doctors found signs of inflammation in an artery of his lungs.
