Nisha Sheoran, daughter of a retired BSF soldier, secured the 17th rank in the Haryana Civil Services recruitment exam. She is also involved in helping her family on their farm and has learned to drive a tractor. Nisha advocates for both household chores and academics, emphasizing the importance of financial independence for women. She completed her schooling and graduated in Chemistry Honours before pursuing a PhD in Sociology. Nisha took UPSC coaching and sat the exam twice but failed. Despite setbacks, she remains determined and hardworking.

HISAR: Nisha Sheoran, 25, daughter of retired Border Security Force (BSF) soldier Rajbir Sheoran, who has nine acres of land at Fartiya Tal village of Loharu tehsil in Bhiwani district, secured the 17th rank in the HCS (Haryana Civil Services) recruitment examination, result of which was declared recently. When TOI contacted Nisha, she was picking cotton flowers with her brother Nitin on the field.
Nisha said that it was common to help the family on the fields and at home.

She said she had also learned to drive a tractor for work on the field and to bring grass to the house. Saying that she was surprised at the attention her work on the field had attracted, she said it was part of life and did not affect her academics in any way.
Nisha advocated both household chores and academics and said that she went to work on the fields after her HCS interview. Her mother Indu Bala is a physical education teacher at Dulania village of Rajasthan. Many members of her maternal family are academicians, she added, underlining the importance of financial independence for women.
Nisha said that she completed her schooling from Thukral Public Senior Secondary School, Loharu and graduated in Chemistry Honours from Maharani College, Jaipur in 2016. Then she did MA in Sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and is now doing PhD in Sociology from Rajasthan University, Jaipur.
Nisha took UPSC coaching at Delhi for nine months, and then prepared at home. She sat the UPSC exam twice but failed. She cleared the assistant commandant exam but could not take the physical efficiency test due to a broken leg.
