CHANDIGARH: Monsoon showers after a week-long break surprised city residents when morning spell followed by breezy winds left the City Beautiful cooler than Srinagar on Friday. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 27.6 degrees C compared to 28.9 degrees C in Srinagar. Moreover, 23.6 mm rain till evening made the day coolest in past five years.

Friday?s breezy weather brought the maximum temperature down by 6 notches while it was at 33.6 degrees on Thursday.
"We are expecting for moderate to heavy rain in the city and its adjoining parts. The day temperature is expected to below 30 degrees C till Sunday," said, Surinder Paul, director of meteorological department Chandigarh. The weather brought smiles on faces of residents, who were finding it hard to tackle the muggy conditions. "It will stay pleasant at least till Sunday," said, Khushi Rajpoot, a resident of Sector 19.
