PATIALA: The inquiry launched by
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) into the video sting operation showing the then state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur accepting Rs 2 lakh from a person has run into rough weather.
AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, who is the chairman of two-member probe committee, told TOI over the phone from Delhi, “We are on with our job but could not complete it within promised seven days.”
He alleged that Chhotepur was not cooperating and his reply to the charges was still awaited.
He had been mentioning the dates of his Punjab Parivartan Yatra being undertaken to gather views of the AAP volunteers, which was keeping him busy.
A close confidante of Chhotepur told TOI over the phone that he had sought a probe by the
CBI and not by the handpicked office-bearers of AAP. One member of the committee Jasbir Singh Bir had signed on the resolution seeking removal of the state convener from the post. How could he dispense justice?
He said that Chhotepur had no connection with the inquiry and did not recognise the two member committee. He asked for making Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi MP, Patiala, and Harinder Singh, MP Fatehgarh Sahib, as members of the committee.
The close associate, who did not want to be named, said that the alleged video showing him as accepting money had not been made public. It appeared that the AAP leadership just wanted to blackmail the sacked convener. If there was any video with AAP, it should be made public, he demanded.
Jarnail Singh said that he would be visiting Punjab in a couple of days and finish the inquiry report. “If Chhotepur does not give his reply, the report will be based on the available facts presented by AAP.”
