Chandigarh: Man gets two-year jail for escaping from custody

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh district court awarded two years imprisonment to Bijnour resident Shahne Ahlam who had escaped from judicial custody when he was produced in district court complex after breaking gutter pipes in the wash room in 2015. He escaped with three other accused, Abrar Khan, Pankaj and Vicky Rajasthani. Accused Abrar Khan and Pankaj were already convicted by court on September 9, 2017. Accused Vicky was declared proclaimed offender on February 28, 2017.


The matter dates back to December 25, 2015 when the FIR was registered against them. Complainant SI Dilbagh Singh said on September 23, 2015, he was on duty at district court in Sector 43. Along with sub-inspector Sarabjeet Kaur and other police officials, he had brought 40 inmates, including three women, from model jail in Burail to the court for their hearings. All were lodged in judicial lock up.

After they attended the respective court hearings, they were to be lodged again in the lock up. But, at about 4pm, accused Abrar Khan, Shahne Alam, Pankaj and Vicky Rajasthani were not found in the lock up. The police checked everywhere and in the toilet, it was found that the lock of the gutter pipes was broken.

The police later established that the accused escaped through pipes. The accused were arrested much later.
