Chandigarh Police
has issued an advisory to all departments to be on guard against a
ransomware attack
on their computers and not open any.

Computer files with this extension carry a virus that encrypts the entire data on the system and demands ransom in bitcoins for an access back to your important files. Cyber-cell's officer in charge, Harinder Singh Sekhon, said people had been warned against opening even the .exe-file that seems to be from anyone they know, since hackers use similar names to send ransomware.

said of all the virus cases that had come to him from all over the country over the past year, more than 50 were of ransomware. A day ago, he received a case from Italy and another five from Greece. “Decrypting the ransomeware takes two to three days,“ he said.
