Bathinda: The first phase of Census 2027 started across the state on Thursday, with the principal census officer-cum-deputy commissioners getting their credentials self-enumerated at the portal.In Bathinda, 100-year-old election icon Dalip Kaur from Bir Talab village got her self-enumeration done, while Bathinda deputy commissioner Rajesh Dhiman opted for self-enumeration at the portal se.census.gov.in.

A toll-free helpline number, 1855, has been made operational for the census. Under the first phase, self-enumeration will be done from April 30 to May 14. From May 15 to June 13, enumerators will visit every household and ask 33 questions. Those who have done self-enumeration will be asked for the self-enumeration number. The enumerator will verify the information uploaded by the family."One should be aware of cyber thugs. No one would be asked for personal details like Aadhaar, PAN card, driving licence or bank number. Citizens need to ensure that they remain immune to any digital forgery by staying alert," said a senior official.In Barnala, deputy commissioner Harpreet Singh and SSP Md Sarfaraz Alam completed their self-enumeration on the portal, thereby formally inaugurating the campaign.
