Chandigarh: The only witness to the firing in Panjab University (PU) on Friday night were found asleep - non-functional closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Officials said the CCTV cameras installed at Student Centre building were dysfunctional since Thursday.
Dean student welfare Navdeep Goyal said, "We don't have anyone to monitor the CCTV cameras for now.

These cameras will be repaired soon. In the emergency meeting, it was decided that there should be someone to monitor the cameras so that we can know about the happenings all the time and if they stop functioning, they can get repaired instantly."
Over 80 CCTV cameras were installed on the campus with three-high resolution cameras at the gates and 45 at hostels, department buildings and parking lots. Over 50 cameras were installed at the library.
