CBI waiting to pounce on Saji
CHANDIGARH: While UT polices Economic Offences Wing is expected to arrive in city with former zonal director of Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh, anytime on Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation is lying in wait to lay its hands on Saji Mohan to know why he named its officials as being involved with a notorious drug-peddler.
As cops draw up three secret routes for the team from Mumbai to reach where the fallen IPS officer will be interrogated in a Rs 13.81-lakh embezzlement and prevention of corruption case, the CBI hopes to quiz the man behind Mission Tricity.

Even as CBI zonal director BL Soni was yet to speak to UT IG SK Jain, he claimed to have got positive feelers. We (CBI) generally dont jump into cases, but this is certainly extraordinary, he said.
Starting off a campaign in Tricity against drug abuse along with the help of some wings of UT administration and central agencies, Saji had pointed fingers at CBI as well. I will send one of my officers to be part of UT polices interrogation. We want to know why Saji had named a few CBI officials as being involved with drug-peddler Harpal Singh, alias Raju, when he himself was part of a vicious nexus.
In touch with Anti-terrorist Squad ever since Saji was caught with 12-kg heroin from Mumbais Oshiwara area on January 25, Soni said, We want to investigate his tenure here. We will look for some fresh inputs and, if need be, register a case.
Meanwhile, UT police has reportedly prepared a 200-point questionnaire to interrogate Saji. Theres also a possibility of cops pressing for his narco and brain-mapping tests. He is very smart and knows how to twist things and, therefore, a decision will be taken after hearing what all he has to say during his questioning, said Baljit Singh Chadha, EOW DSP.
With the legal framework disallowing police to quiz Saji outside the embezzlement case, there are apprehensions of his not cooperating in the inquiry in which he levelled serious charges against a DSP and a journalist for allegedly influencing his report against UT police cops. He is well within his rights to say no to all such questions, said legal experts, adding, one way out is to ask the court for remand for further questioning.
