Canter-pickup collides in fog in Ferozepur, 9 dead, 11 injured
FEROZEPUR: A Bolero pickup and a canter collided in Punjab's near village Mohan's Utaad, near Guru Har Sahai, District Ferozepur in the early hours leaving 9 dead and 11 people injured.
At the time of the tragic accident, Bolero pickup was carrying waiters to a catering event, going from Guru Har Sahai towards Jalalabad. While, the injured people were taken to the hospital by the police with the help of passersby, the bodies of the dead were found scattered on the road.
Although the police is investigating the whole matter, they suspect the accident happened when the pickup went out of control, causing a collision with the Canter coming from behind. The pickup truck was badly damaged in this and all the people in the pickup fell far away from the accident site. While eight people died on the spot, one died during treatment.
Inspector Jaswinder Singh Brar, who reached the crime scene for investigation, has told that as soon as the information of the incident was received in the morning, teams of Road Safety Force (SSF) reached the spot where a lot of people were already gathered causing a long jam.
While the jam was cleared and traffic was restored by the police, the injured were taken to the hospital with the help of passers-by.
Deepshikha Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, mentioned that all the injured are being taken care of and are being treated by the district administration. She informed that district administration had immediately sent 5 ambulances to the spot and the injured have been admitted to hospitals in Faridkot and Jalalabad. While, the bodies have been kept in Jalalabad hospital, where their postmortem will be done.
Out of the 11 injured, 10 have been referred to Medical College Faridkot for treatment. At the same time, 1 patient is undergoing treatment in Jalalabad.
Chief minister, Bhagwant Mann has also expressed grief over the tragedy and as per the Local MLA Fauja Singh Sarari, Rs.2 Lakhs of financial assistance has been announced to the families whose ward have died in the accident while Rs.50,000 to each injured persons.
Sukhbir Singh Badal also expressed grief over the incident and offered heartfelt sympathy and prayers to the bereaved families.
