ZIRAKPUR: The terror of stray dogs has bitten the

VIP

Road residents. Since major complaints at the TOI event on Sunday were from Savitry Towers, TOI sent its team to the housing society right after the session.

Manmeet Kaur, 60, of Savitry Towers is latest survivor of an attack by a pack of stray dogs. She said: “When the canines ripped my clothes during my evening walk in the society, I thought it was the last day of my life. I had forgotten my mobile phone at home and could see nobody who could help”, recalled the 60-year-old survivor. I thanked God that my 2-year-old granddaughter wasn’t with me at that time. I just stood motionless and left everything to fate. I haven’t left home since that harrowing experience.”

Her husband, Manjit Singh, had said at the TOI event: “We give a monthly maintenance fee of Rs 1,200 to the society but it does nothing to drive away the stray dogs. My wife is scared to step outside now and I’m helpless despite drawing the attention of the MC to this issue repeatedly.” The society has reported at least four cases of

dog

bite, yet residents lack awareness about what to do in these cases. “People feed the street dogs milk and bread, which attracts entire packs to the society, all six gates of which remain open. No wonder cases of dog bite have increased,” Manmeet Kaur said. “Even my neighbor’s daughter is under treatment since a dog bit her last year.”

Area councillor Yadwinder Sharma said: “We have formed committees to begin the dog-sterlization process.”
