LUDHIANA: Shweta Verma, chairperson district branch of Indian Red Cross Society inaugurated a blood donation and first aid training camp at GGN Khalsa College for Boys here on Thursday, in which 52 units of blood were donated by the students.
First aid training was also imparted to the students by the Instructor, St. John Ambulance Association, Ludhiana on this occasion.
Shweta Verma appreciating the initiative of the students for this noble work, called upon them to come forward in a big way to donate blood in order to save precious lives of the patients.
Referring to the efforts of the society, Verma informed that during the last calendar year, 34 blood donation camps were organized and 3866 units of blood were collected including replacement and volunteer donors, out of these 422 units of blood were collected for the Thalassemic patients only through Blood donation camps.
Verma further said that St. John Ambulance Association which was a wing of Indian Red Cross Society district branch Ludhiana had imparted first aid training to 2550 Nos. of students during the last year. In the current calendar year from January 2004, this is the 7th Blood donation camp organized by the Red Cross Regional Blood Bank, Ludhiana. Out of these seven camps and two blood donation camps were sponsored to DMCH for Thalassemic patients, she added.
