Chandigarh: A fire broke out inside the main blood bank of Sector 16’s govt hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, narrowly missing critical blood stocks after old electrical wiring sparked an air-conditioning unit.On-duty staff at the Govt Multi-Specialty Hospital detected smoke inside the unit and alerted security personnel. Guards used on-site extinguishers to contain the blaze before emergency services arrived, preventing structural damage and ensuring life-saving blood supplies remained unharmed.Hospital executives, led by UT health services director, Dr Suman Singh, launched an immediate safety review on the scene to ensure operations could continue without disruption. No injuries were reported, and a forensic technical inspection is on to evaluate the facility's power network and prevent future failures.
