Hawara had masterminded the jailbreak and assassinated former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh.
His trail in the criminal case is being conducted inside Burail jail due to security concerns.
Babbar Khalsa International terrorist Chaura, who is currently out on bail in the jailbreak case and visits Burail for the trial, had reportedly provided help to Hawara and other accused in the assassination case, Jagtar Singh Tara and Paramjit Singh Bheora. He had reportedly turned off power supply in the jail, helping the accused escape through a tunnel.
After secret information regarding the attempted meeting reached them on Wednesday, city cops rushed a letter to the Punjab director general of police, requesting him to keep a tab on Chaura.

Talking on the condition of anonymity, a UT police officer said, This is a very serious matter and we have written to senior officials of Punjab police. They have been apprised of the details and we are on our toes.
A senior Punjab police officer not wishing to be named confirmed the development and said necessary details and information pertaining to it would be sent to Chandigarh police from time to time. He refused to divulge further details.
Punjab police is also keeping a close eye on various suspects and those who were earlier involved in terrorists activities. A Chandigarh cop said, We have always kept in touch with Punjab police as far as information on troublemakers is concerned.
