Soon after the mayor election, Congress boycotted senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor election, alleging that the presiding officer Ajay Datta who belongs from RSS did not stop malpractice during election and BJP councillor clicked photos while casting their votes to show to their bosses later.

Congress Chandigarh president said that BJP had elected a mayor who is facing corruption charges and Congress will now take this battle before the citizens of Chandigarh.

“The officers of Chandigarh administration are also supporting BJP, which is condemnable. It is officers’ duty to ensure free and fair election, but every malpractice happened in the presence of Chandigarh DC”, Congress Chandigarh president Pardeep Chhabra said.
