CHANDIGARH: The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) is examining the detailed project report prepared by Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board on the 110 MW hydel project on river Pabbar at Sawra Kuddu in Rohru district.
BBMB chairman Rakesh Nath said that it seems a "good project" and the board is likely to clear it this month after some issues raised by them are sorted out.
Nath said the project, which is likely to be taken up soon after obtaining clearances, would be of immense use during peak hours. However, it won’t be a high energy generating one primarily because of low water storage capacity.
The power generated would be shared by the BBMB partner states of Punjab Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh in proportion to their equity participation in the Rs 410 crore project. The project is to be completed in four and half years after commencement of work.
Apparently, the cost per MW is higher in the hydel projects, said Nath to a question, but added that the recurring and maintenance cost of hydel project is much less than thermal power stations and would be reduced to negligible once the initial capital investment is realised.
