Chandigarh: Crack of a gunshot shattered the calm outside HDFC Bank in Sector-17-C on Tuesday noon. The shot was fired accidentally by the security guard of the bank's cash van, Netra Singh, who was sitting outside the premises, holding a double-barrel gun at around 2.15pm. The bullet hit the guard on his hand and injured him.

Bank employees informed the police immediately. A PCR and Sector-17 police station SHO Rohit Kumar, along with his team, reached the spot. Police took the injured guard to GMSH-16 in a PCR van. He is undergoing treatment and his condition is stated to be stable.
Sources said that on Tuesday, the cash van arrived at around 2.15pm to collect cash.
Police said Netra Singh was sitting on a chair outside the bank when a bullet was fired accidentally, striking his hand, triggering panic, exacerbated by the blood splattered floor.
Police said had the bullet hit anyone else, there could have been loss of life. Sources said that the guard, who was sitting outside, kept the gun absolutely straight and pressed the trigger accidentally. However, police are examining CCTV camera footage to determine how the bullet was fired.
