Bambiha gang’s gun runner held after Patiala shootout

Patiala: A key weapons supplier for the Bambiha gang was arrested after a brief shootout on Monday night in Rajpura. Cops claim that accused Tejinder Singh ‘Teji', 30, who is from a village in Rajpura's Sadar police jurisdiction, fired upon them at a checkpoint set up to check him for drugs and firearms based on prior intelligence.Officers returned fire, striking Tejinder Singh in the leg before taking him into custody. A police spokesperson said: "The accused fired multiple shots, hitting a police special cell vehicle on the bonnet and side panel. He was subdued in retaliatory fire, and a revolver along with a cache of narcotic tablets — being cataloged currently — were seized from him."Authorities concerned claimed Tejinder Singh to have a history of serious criminal offences, including five prior cases — three under the Arms Act, one for murder, and another related to drug trafficking under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigators believe Tenjinder Singh to have played a central role in procuring weapons for the Bambiha gang, sourcing arms from Madhya Pradesh allegedly. Police are now examining the origins of the firearm seized during the arrest. Further investigation is in progress.
