Kirron Kher used phrases like "main chaddungi ni inko" (I will not leave them) and "bakre ki maa kab tak khair manaegi" (what is allotted cannot be blotted) in the
Panjab University
(PU) senate meet on Saturday. Many senators objected to her wordings.
The MP participated in the discussion saying Emanual Nahar should not be granted an extension. "Are we so at a loss of an eminent professor here that we have to use all possible ways to keep appointing a member as DSW who is directly linked to a political party?" she asked. Nahar, as said, held a position in Chandigarh Congress' manifesto drafting committee.
While the VC asked Kher to stop, she continued speaking. "It is absolutely wrong and I feel sad seeing these members shout in the house," she said. Later, when senator
Ashok Goyal
presented the resolution that sought for Nahar's extension, Kher got angry again.
"Has he (Goyal) brought his mic from his home?" she asked. "Give a mic to me too," she demanded. At this Goyal replied that he had not brought a mic from home and as member of the senate he was given the mic to speak.
Kher questioned him why was he holding the mic for so long and speaking despite the VC asking him to stop, to which Goyal said, "You are not the chairperson of the senate."
The two then exchanged heated words, following which Kher demanded that the mic should be taken away from Goyal adding, "You force us to behave like you."
As more senators opposed her, Kher blurted out angrily in Punjabi. "Ae saare na badle jaane bohot chetti, bakre di maa kab tak khair manaegi," she said, hinting of new senate elections next year where BJP will most likely have a majority due to a BJP government at the Centre and many of those in the house will no longer be part of it.
"Main chaddungi ni inko" (I will not leave them), she said, saying she will not let them (anti-VC senators) have their way in the meeting.
However, when the VC announced for a break and resumed the meeting five minutes later, Kher left and did not return to the house when VC gave in to the demands and agreed for an extension to DSW Nahar.
Senator Dayal Partap Singh Randhawa stood up to say he was upset with the choice of words used by Kher. BJP leader Sanjay Tandon and Satya Pal Jain deviated the matter and the senate meet ended.
