Back SAD in civic polls for Punjab’s revival: Sukhbir
Bathinda: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday appealed to voters to back the party in the upcoming municipal elections, asserting that only the SAD can steer Punjab back to a path of progress and prosperity.Addressing a gathering at the residence of late legislator Raghbir Singh in Gidderbaha, Sukhbir launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying it had "failed on all fronts" and was "on its way out." He claimed civic infrastructure across the state was crumbling, alleging that no efforts had been made to strengthen roads, sewerage or street lighting laid during the SAD's tenure. He also flagged what he described as a breakdown of law and order, saying incidents of snatching, robbery and extortion had become frequent. "In such a situation, there is a growing belief that only a regional party like SAD can form a government that truly reflects the aspirations of Punjabis," he said.Targeting the AAP government over its handling of employees, Sukhbir alleged that dearness allowance was not being released to employees and pensioners despite court directions, and accused the government of reneging on its promises. He said employees were being denied their dues even as "crores" were spent on advertisements and publicity. In contrast, Sukhbir said former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had not only set up pay commissions but also ensured their implementation after addressing anomalies flagged by employee unions.Pics: Sukhbir addresses workers at Gidderbaha
