Local meteorological department director Surinder Paul said: “The weather lately will stay pleasant for the next three days. We expect moderate to heavy showers on Sunday and Monday.” The maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 34.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum 26.6°C. The shadow of dark clouds crept over the city, which experienced 7.2-milimetre rainfall along with cool breeze. City dwellers enjoyed getting wet until weather became quite humid after the rain and the sky turned partly cloudy.
The day temperature is predicted to range between 25 to 35 degrees Celsius on Sunday. On Friday, it was 30.8°C and the minimum 26.7°C. The city also witnessed 14.4-milimetre rainfall. “We predict more rainfall in the latter half of Sunday. However, the level of humidity will go higher,” said an official at the Chandigarh meteorological department. The recorded humidity level on Saturday was 69%, which will stay around this point throughout July. On Friday, it was 72% and will keep varying over the coming days, maybe shoot up towards the end of the month.
Despite the humidity, the residents of Chandigarh performed their rainy-day rituals. Sushil Saini, head of nuclear family of Sector 8, said: “We were happy that the afternoon started with a heavy rain and we could get respite from the harsh sun of summer. We made the afternoon even more enjoyable by adding snacks to our meal and spending quality time together in our backyard.”
