Auto driver molests Egyptian woman in Chandigarh
CHANDIGARH: Close on the heels of recent reported cases of molestation with females passengers by unruly auto drivers in national capital, a 22-year old Egyptian woman was molested and thrashed by an auto driver near Sector 52 on Friday night. The auto driver has been escaped after abandoning his auto when the foreign national woman, who is in Chandigarhfor a brief stint, raised an alarm.The incident took place around 11.10pm. Accused driver identified as Nanu Kumar, a resident of Shastri Nagarin Manimajra. The medical examination of the victim confirmed blunt injuries and brushes all over her body.
Sources said the foreign woman hired the auto from a leading multiplex, ElanteMall, located in phase-2, for Sector 43 and the driver attempted to take the female on wrong direction towards Sector 52, and the victim noticed the wrong path through her GPS system installed in her cell phone. In her complaint to police, victim, who is attached with an NGO, stated, "As I noticed over the GPS that my destination Sector 43 is in the opposite side than the direction, in which auto was being headed by the driver, I raised alarm and started shouting.
The auto was speeded down and I jumped out of it but subsequently the driver grabbed me from my hairs and started thrashing me." Meanwhile, the driver escaped when two passerbyalso gathered on the spot and the victim started shouting loudly. The victim residing in a rented accommodation in Sector 43.
The victim maintained that she was physical assaulted by the auto driver. Police sources maintained that an auto driver has no need to come towards Sector 52 in the case going to drop any passenger in Sector 43. Police have ruled out the presence of alcohol in the body of accused, who was produced in a local court and send to judicial custody in Model BurailJail on Saturday. A case under Section 354B and 323 of IPC was registered at Sector 49 police station.
