ATM guard, aide held for Rs 4 lakh robbery
Mohali: Police arrested two persons, including a security guard, for allegedly robbing the cash carrier at an ATM kiosk of Rs 4 lakh by throwing chilli powder into his eyes. The incident took place in Phase 7 on Feb 14.The accused, allegedly under the influence of drugs, committed the crime in broad daylight. They were identified as Nissan Masih, a resident of Ferozepur currently living in Sohana, Mohali, and Maninder Singh, a resident of Moga residing in Sohana.

Police recovered Rs 2 lakh cash, the motorcycle used in the crime, a knife, clothes worn during the offence, and two mobile phones allegedly purchased using the looted money. Both the accused were produced in court and remanded in police custody.Police said a case was registered at Mataur police station on Feb 14, 2026, under relevant sections of the IPC, on the statement of Gurjot Singh, a resident of Phase 3B2. Gurjot Singh employs around 10 workers who collect payments and deposit cash in different banks.On the day of the incident, his employee, Biku Kumar, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, went to deposit Rs 4 lakh at the ATM around 2.30pm.
The two accused allegedly entered the kiosk, threw chilli powder into his eyes and snatched the cash bag. Then they fled from the spot.Investigations revealed that Nissan Masih, who had been working as a security guard at the same ATM for nearly three months, conducted a recce, knowing that the employee regularly visited the ATM with cash. Acting on his disclosure, police arrested his accomplice, Maninder Singh, and added relevant sections to the case. Further investigation is underway. MSID:: 128559075 413 |
