CHANDIGARH: 'Gandhigiri' is on a roll. But in Chandigarh, its votaries just rode roughshod over unsuspecting moviegoers out to have some innocent fun.
Two days after members of Congress Working Committee hailed 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' for presenting values and ideals of Mahatama Gandhi "in a form acceptable to the youth", some Haryana cabinet ministers, led by chief minister B S Hooda, went looking for lessons from Prof Murli Prasad Sharma and ended up giving lessons in VIP high-handedness instead.

Even as the state cabinet top brass joined in the laughter, a popular movie hall in Panchkula was on Monday night turned into a fortress, with armed guards manning the theatre and the whole complex.
In fact, screening of the 9.45 pm show was delayed by at least 20 minutes to suit the arrival timing of Hooda and his gang.
The impatient audience, surprised over the delay, kept approaching the theatre staff time and again only to be politely warded off.
Apparently, instructed by the CM's security staff, the audience was told that a "technical flaw" was causing the delay...
...
Truth came out when a battery of Haryana Congressmen walked into the auditorium at around 10 pm and occupied seats reserved for them. Hooda was flanked by his trusted colleagues Randeep Surjewala and Venod Sharma.

Most visitors were visibly upset and irritated to have sucha a large array of gun totting policemen all over the place, searching every nook and corner. Some even mistook the policemen for bomb squad sleuths and went back home to come another day.
Shikha Malhotra, who had come to watch the movie with her husband, told TOI, "We are going back. We will buy a CD and watch the movie at home. You too should not stay here. I think police are working on some information and there could be a bomb in here."
Almost an hour before start of the show in which the VIPs were to be in attendance, police control room vehicles from both Haryana and Chandigarh were parked at the entry point.
Hitesh Kumar, who was refused a movie ticket by staff at the counter, was told it was a full house.
He later learnt some seats were deliberately kept unoccupied for "security reasons". Interestingly, Surinder Singh, media advisor to Hooda, said,"CM will not talk on this matter as he does not speak on films."
