Haryana cop shoots himself, claims everything was for sale during slain IPS officer Puran Kumar’s tenure
CHANDIGARH: In a stunning twist in Haryana Y Puran Kumar’s “suicide case”, another police officer — who was part of the team investigating Kumar in a case — died by on Tuesday after levelling serious allegations against the former Rohtak IG.
ASI Sandeep Kumar, who was with the Rohtak cyber cell, left a three-page suicide note and a video in which he said Puran Kumar’s suicide “wasn’t a caste case” and that he was a “very corrupt officer”.
“Puran Kumar died by suicide only to avoid family humiliation,” Sandeep claims in the video and suicide note, which he too termed a “final note,” the way the IPS officer did while allegedly shooting himself dead on Oct 7.
Sandeep was also part of the team that arrested Kumar’s former PSO, Sushil, who later allegedly claimed that he was collecting money on behalf of Kumar, who was then the Rohak IG.
In the video, Sandeep claimed he was “sacrificing his life to awaken the people”. “My grandfather fought for the country, and now his grandson will do the same. I am proud that I stood for honesty. I lived honestly and belonged to a farming community. I am a follower of Bhagat Singh and his ideals. I am not afraid of anything.”
“The DGP of Haryana is an honest person (Shatrujeet Kapur, who was sent on leave on Monday night). These people/associations/bodies that are demanding action against DGP so that they can have freedom to be corrupt (sic). Why are you destroying the country? The poison of casteism is spreading. We should not succumb to corrupt people. Through politics, great truths are being concealed,” Sandeep claimed in the video.
He was found dead in a small tubewell room in his maternal uncle’s farm in Ladhot village, on the outskirts of Rohtak. Police said they found the note and video at the spot. In the 6.28-minute video, Sandeep alleged that when Puran Kumar was Rohtak IGP, “everything was openly for sale” — “pay money and get your posting”. He also claimed that CDRs and CCTV footage of the time would reveal the truth.
“Corruption was rampant during his tenure in Rohtak. Now, everything is being covered up through political influence, simply because his wife is an IAS officer and his brother-in-law is an MLA — both powerful people,” he said. The deceased cop also mentioned some specific instances in which the deceased IPS officer had allegedly taken money or fixed “dealings” to settle the case against some individuals.
Sandeep also claimed in his video that when they issued a show-cause notice to Puran Kumar’s gunman to join the probe in the corruption case, he was confident that nothing would happen to him. He also praised former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarni, who has been named along with Kapur by Puran Kumar in his suicide note, for being honest.
Sandeep’s family have refused to allow a postmortem until an FIR is registered. They have kept the body in his uncle’s house in Ladhot and even hired a large freezer, indicating they are prepared to go the long haul.
ASP Prateek Kumar was trying to persuade the family to proceed with the postmortem at the time of going to print.
Sanjay Deswal, Sandeep’s cousin, said they want an FIR registered and action against all those named in the suicide video.
Sandeep had appeared distressed for the past few days, he said.

Corruption solidified by caste poison will destroy this democracy, unless we the people unite to end this malaise. In caste politics, none of our states or UTs are free from blame - it has become life blood every rowdy politico-bureaucrat. Only God can save this country.Read allPost comment
