CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi's week-long celebrations of Amrita Shergill National Art Week began with slide lectures by artists and writers, followed by inauguration of the photography exhibition.
The evening started with a slide lecture on "J Swaminathan: Decades of Transit" by art commentator and artist S Kalidas. The lecture was based on an exhibition held in Delhi for his late father J Swaminathan.
In this lecture, S Kalidas extensively talked about the life of his father, his journey of becoming an artist. Drawings and paintings were also shown in slides during this lecture.
This was followed by a lecture by Anjolie Ela Menon on "Making of a mural and other works". She showed a mixture of her paintings in the slide presentation. Photographs of Umrao Singh Shergil and "Retake of Amrita" by Vivan Sundaram were on display in the photo exhibition. The coming days will include lectures by renowned artists mainly the young artists like Ashok vajpeyi, Kavita Singh, Mithu Sen, Amrita Shergill's niece Navina Sundaram.
