Once they surpassed this altitude, they came under the purview of the Delhi airport system.

But now the Amritsar international airport will be able to maintain contact and give directions to aircraft flying up to the height of 25,500 feet, which was earlier controlled by Delhi airport.

Airport director VK Seth said on Thursday that to enhance the safety and capacity of airspace, a separate Lower Area Control Centre (LACC) has been set up.

With the installation of the LACC, Amritsar airport will now be capable of maintaining communication and providing directions to aircraft flying up to 25,500 feet, said Seth.

After inaugurating the LACC, Seth said, “As air traffic grew in the airspace near the northwestern border, there was a need for creating an LACC in Amritsar especially owing to its proximity with the international border.” tnn
