‘Amritpal’s speeches tried to wage war against state’

Chandigarh: Punjab police’s dossier about pro-Khalistan self-styled preacher Amritpal Singh (30), who was arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) on April 23, says he not only promoted enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, place of birth and language through fiery and provocative speeches but also attempted to wage war against the state asserting his organisation’s aim is creation of independent nation ‘Khalistan’ by way of secession of Punjab from India.
Amritpal, who was on the run since March 18 from Jalandhar till April 23 when he was taken into police custody from Rode village in Moga district, had even threatened Union home minister Amit Shah to not put any hindrance to his demand for a separate Sikh state, according to the dossier.
By making reference to the assassination of the late PM Indira Gandhi, he said that she also tried to suppress the Khalistan militancy but got killed, reads the report while referring to Amritpal’s inflammatory public speeches. Amritpal made aspeech outside the Ajnala police station on February 23 threatening Punjab CMthat if he continued to operate in a similar fashion, then he could also be targeted by a human bomb like the late CM Beant Singh.
