Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia sent to 7-day police custody

Bikram Singh Majithia, a Shiromani Akali Dal leader, appeared in court. The court remanded Majithia to seven days of police custody. He will reappear in court on July 2. Authorities arrested him from his Amritsar residence on Wednesday. The Punjab department arrested him on charges relating to disproportionate assets. Security was high around the Mohali court during the proceedings.

MOHALI: Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia was produced in the court on Thursday which remanded Majithia to 7 days police custody. Majithia now will be again produced in the court on July 2.He was produced in the Mohali court under high security measures as the roads around Mohali district courts were totaly cordoned of and a curfew like situation was created.He was arrested from his residence in Amritsar on Wednesday and was brought late in the evening to Mohali vigilance headquarters. Later in the night he was taken for the medical examination as civil hospital phase 6 Mohali after which today morning he was produced in the court. He was arrested by the Punjab department on charges of disproportionate assets, having income beyond his earnings.
