The sanitation contractor was directed to strictly adhere to biomedical waste storage and disposal guidelines. The biomedical waste disposal agency was instructed to ensure timely clearance of waste from the hospital premises.Taking cognisance of the viral video, the hospital administration on Tuesday morning constituted a 3-member fact-finding committee to investigate lapses and fix responsibility. The committee found that a patient underwent an above-knee amputation on February 19 under the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department. The amputated limb was packed and stored in the biomedical waste complex for disposal.
However, on the night of Feb 1, sanitation workers left the complex door open and unattended while depositing waste. It is suspected that, during this time, a stray dog took the limb. The missing body part could not be located despite efforts. On February 24, a dog was spotted carrying it in its mouth, and as the security personnel tried to retrieve the human foot, the dog became aggressive and ran away. MSID: 128752345 413 |
