Hoshiarpur:
Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday rolled out a Rs 516-crore development push for Hoshiarpur, combining expansion of healthcare infrastructure and other new projects in the Sham Chaurasi assembly segment.
Addressing a gathering, the CM said the Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences would be completed within two years and would train 100 MBBS doctors annually, alongside a 300-bed hospital equipped with advanced facilities, including OPD, MRI, CT scan and specialised departments.
He also laid the foundation stone of a 30-bed community health centre at Sham Chaurasi, equipped with a modern operation theatre, a lab, X-ray facility and other services, which will benefit over 40 villages. Mann also announced seven additional health and wellness centres in the constituency to expand last-mile healthcare access.
The CM also laid the foundation stone of the Rs 99-crore Balachaur-Garhshankar-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road project. The 105-km corridor will connect Chandigarh to Pathankot and Jammu and Kashmir via Balachaur, Hoshiarpur and Dasuya, reducing travel time between Jammu and Chandigarh, and facilitating smoother access for devotees travelling to Anandpur Sahib, Mata Naina Devi and Jwala Ji.
Punjab minister Dr Ravjot Singh and Hoshiarpur MP Dr Rajkumar Chabbewal were also present.
