MOHALI: After a case of abduction was registered at Sohana police station on Wednesday, following the disappearance of Haricharan Vashist, a Punjab agriculture department employee, on February 28, police have launched a hunt for the suspects.
Sources said the cops are trying to track the culprits by the location of their mobile phones, which was outside the state.
The day Vashisht went missing, his son Deepak lodged a complaint alleging foul play. Cops said the details and whereabouts of the accused have been kept secret to avoid any hindrance in their arrest.
According to Vashishts family, he had left village Manauli by his car but had neither reached Chandigarh or returned, and all their efforts to trace him had proved futile.
Haricharan, employed as a senior assistant with Punjab agriculture department in Mohali, had emerged as a spiritual leader of the area, said a police official.
Nirmal Singh, one his followers, said the day Haricharan went missing, he was surprised to receive a SMS at around 10.30 pm, informing him that he was busy, as Haricharan didnt know how to send one.
