According to official sources, Lovepreet died after his service rifle accidentally went off. Officials from the Mansa District Sainik Welfare Office stated that Lovepreet Singh, along with another soldier, was on road-opening unit duty when he went away for some time, and his accomplice later heard a gunshot.

Meanwhile, in his native village of Aklia, it was reported that he was martyred in gunfire with enemies, as a pall of gloom descended upon the family and the village.

According to villagers, he was the younger of two brothers and was due to visit the village in the coming days for the marriage ceremony of his elder brother. Political leaders expressed their condolences on social media, referring to him as a martyr.

Mansa deputy commissioner Kulwant Singh stated, "We have been informed about the demise of the Agniveer, and his mortal remains are expected to reach his native village later in the evening."
