After PU students, ex-prisoner held for supplying drugs to jailed gangsters

PATIALA; The organised crime control unit (OCCU) of the Punjab Police made another arrest in connection with the drugs that were being supplied to the gangsters lodged in the Nabha jail. Two student leaders of

Panjab University

(PU) and two staff members of the prison department had already been arrested in the case.

The arrest was made after assistant jail superintendent Roopa Singh and constable Karanjot Sharma alias Jyoti Sharma told the investigators that one Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Lalru lodged in the Nabha jail in connection with a murder case, was also involved in supply of drugs to gangster Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol and his associates.

According to the police, Ramesh was arrested from Lalru after he had walked out from the Nabha jail on bail recently.

used to buy drugs from one Naveen Kumar and then supply those to the assistant jail superintendent Roopa and constable Jyoti who would then ask Ramesh to handover the narcotics to Neeta Deol and his associates.

The police said with the arrest of Ramesh, they had cracked the entire nexus at Nabha jail through which the gangsters were able to get drugs inside the jail premises. Police said Ramesh had also been booked under various sections of the law and his name has been incorporated in the FIR that has been registered on October 23 at Rajpura Sadar police station against the two PU student leaders and the two jail staffers.
