Address unclaimed vehicles issue: Admn

Chandigarh: UT home secretary Nitin Yadav directed the police to launch a special campaign to address the issue of unclaimed and abandoned vehicles that are posing a threat to public safety and security. There are several vehicles that can be seen unattended at market parking lots, residential areas and vacant government lands. The UT administration has also urged residents to file reports about unclaimed vehicles at the number 112 or contact area SHOs directly. Police will identify registered owners of abandoned vehicles found in public places, who will then be notified to remove their vehicles from these locations. If the registered owner cannot be traced or remains unresponsive, the vehicles will be taken into police custody through a seizure memo under section 102 of the CrPC. The home secretary also directed the UT SSP to oversee and execute this campaign. Regular progress reports on the action taken will be submitted on a monthly basis.
