The Haryana chief minister said with popular artists like Gill and Dhaliwal choosing to join the BJP, the saffron party will get a big boost in Punjab. Gill said, “I have always felt that my home was calling me back and I wanted to serve it and I did not find any better party than the BJP.” The actress further added that she particularly wanted to do something for the girls in Punjab and felt confident that she could do it with the BJP.

Whereas Dhaliwal said he was impressed by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Punjab and therefore chose to join the BJP.

Three prominent faces from the Punjab Congress also joined the BJP on Monday. These included former chairman of Punjab Medium Industry Development Board Amarjit Singh Tikka from Ludhiana, youth leader from Sunam and national secretary of the Indian Youth Congress Daman Bajwa and chairman Punjab Youth Development Board Sukhwinder Singh Bindra. Tikka has served the Congress for over 30 years and has closely been associated with former chief ministers like late Beant Singh and Capt Amarinder Singh.

, president ex-serviceman wing of Shiromani Akali Dal and Jagdeep Badal, grandson of veteran Akali leader Gurdev Singh Badal, and president nagar council Sunam Nishan Singh were among others who also joined the BJP.

Responding to a question, Shekhawat said announcing Charanjit Singh Channi’s announcement as Congress’s CM candidate will not make any difference. He said that it has only reinforced the public perception that corruption and the mafia system was not only acceptable in Congress, but was also being rewarded. “The only thing that has now been firmly established is that Congress has become morally so bankrupt that it had to name someone as its CM candidate who was facing serious charges of corruption and promoting the sand mafia,” he said.
