CHANDIGARH: Crime branch on Thursday recommended strict action against assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Narinder Singh of Sector-34 police station for converting a vehicle lifting case to a missing report, in May.
The stolen two-wheeler was recovered from possession of vehicle lifter
Yogesh Kumar on July 20 but when crime branch officers sought records of the vehicle, cops were unable to provide the same.
The scooter belongs to Aatmaram of Dadumajra, Sector 38, and he had reported the incident to cops, a little while after the theft took place in Sector 34.
Sources said instead of lodging an FIR, ASI tried to hush up the matter by lodging a DDR, maintaining that the circumstances in which the scooter was stolen were suspicious and there was need to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Vehicle lifter Yogesh Kumar was nabbed following a tip-off by crime branch sleuths and is in police custody for two days. This happening has questioned the claims of police officers, regarding immediate lodging of FIRs in all cognizable offences.
Due to no FIR, crime branch officers seized the scooter under Section 201 of CrPc.
