Abetment to suicide: 7-yr jail for man, mother

Chandigarh: A local court on Thursday sentenced a man and his mother to seven-year imprisonment in a three-year-old abetment to suicide case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on the two convicts, Sandeep Yadav and his mother Kalawati. Police had booked Sandeep Yadav, Kalawati, Vikas, Ram Yadav and Anita after the death of Sandeep’s wife on March 8, 2019. The court acquitted the three other accused. Prabhawati, a resident of Mauli Jagran and mother of the victim, had said her eldest daughter got married to Sandeep in 2018. She had alleged the accused had been harassing her daughter for bringing more dowry. Two months before the woman had ended her life, Sandeep had allegedly thrashed her and thrown her out of the house.
