SIRSA: A person of the third gender arrested for abducting a minor girl committed suicide in the local jail by hanging herself to carry out her threat to the girl's family.

She was from Kotkapura in Punjab's Faridkot district and had warned the girl family's that both will commit suicide if the girl wasn't allowed to change her gender for their marriage. She and two other people of the third gender who allegedly assisted the abduction were arrested on the complaint of the girl's mother. Police had recovered the abducted girl, after which a court had remaned the accused in judicial custody. The girl refused to go to home, so was sent to a one-stop centre.

The girl's mother has claiemd that the person of the alternative gender was a frequent visitor to her locality's devotional singing troupe, where she had met her daughter. The victim was a dancer and she had even performed in a Bhajan-Kirtan programme of the jail's women inmates.
