AAP MLA Anmol Gagan Maan’s husband, 2 others convicted in Rs 3.5cr cheque bounce case

Mohali: A Derabassi court on Tuesday sentenced Shahbaz Singh Sohi, husband of AAP MLA Anmol Gagan Maan, and his two business partners to two years of imprisonment in a cheque-bounce case after a legal battle of nearly seven years. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the convicts. They were bailed out later.The case pertains to a complaint filed in 2018 under sections 138 and 142 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, along with Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, against M/s Platinum Smart Buildcon LLP and its three partners— Sohi, Nachhatar Singh of Naraingarh, and Jatinder Singh of Zirakpur.According to Bharat Joshi, counsel for complainant Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Panchkula's Sector 21, the dispute arose from a real-estate transaction involving plots in a realty project at Rajpura. Joshi said Kamaljit entered into an agreement with the three partners for the purchase of plots worth crores of rupees.He told the court that the accused issued a cheque of Rs 3.5 crore as part of the agreement. However, the cheque was later dishonoured, leading to the filing of the complaint. The complainant alleged that the accused delayed the matter and failed to honour their financial commitment, prompting legal action.After the verdict, the convicts moved an application seeking bail to enable them to file an appeal in a higher court. The court granted bail for this purpose.Maan, MLA from Kharar, married Sohi on June 16, 2024. At the time, she was serving as a minister in the Punjab govt.
