PANCHKULA: An 80-year-old man was duped of Rs 55 lakh by his two relatives on the pretext of investing his money in real estate. A case of cheating was registered at the

Chandimandir

police station on Wednesday.

According to the complaint filed by R K Gupta, a retired LIC employee and a resident of Sector 17, Vishal Gupta, alias Vicky, a resident of

Naraingarh

and his wife Preeti Gupta contacted him in 2009. Vicky told Gupta that he dealt in property and has his office in Sector 25. Vicky convinced Gupta to invest with him. Gupta gave him Rs 55 lakh from 2010 and 2013.

Gupta alleged Vicky in 2010 told him that he has managed to earn a profit of Rs 50,000 and he would re-invest his share in another property. In 2012, Vicky sold a property and told Gupta that his share of profit was Rs 8 lakh. However, Vicky did not give any money to Gupta and told him that he has invested his share in another property in Naraingarh, Gupta alleged. When Gupta made some inquiries, he came to know that Vicky had never bought property on his name. Gupta said, "Vicky never returned my money nor handed me any profit of the amount I had invested real estate."

Police registered a case under Sections 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC at the Chandimandir police station.
