8 flights cancelled; airport tries to glide out of chaos

Mohali: After days of disruption, there was some improvement in flight operations at Chandigarh International Airport, where just eight flights were cancelled on Tuesday. Most others operated with manageable delays ranging from 15 minutes to two hours. In all, 13 flights had delayed arrivals and departures on Tuesday.

CHIAL chief executive officer (CEO) Ajay Kumar said the situation was improving steadily and flight schedules were stabilising. "Operations are normalising as airlines return to their regular schedules. Only a few flights to and from Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi were cancelled, while the rest operated as planned," he said.


The disruptions were primarily caused by a technical glitch in the duty roster system of IndiGo, which led to a sudden shortage of pilots and cabin crew. The situation was further impacted after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation revised flight duty time limitations, forcing airlines to realign crew schedules across the network.

In a statement released on Tuesday, IndiGo said its network operations have now been substantially stabilised. The airline confirmed that all flights listed on its website are scheduled to operate under an adjusted network plan. The airline also stated that nearly all baggage held up at various airports due to the previous disruptions has been delivered to passengers, and efforts are on to deliver the remaining baggage at the earliest.

Airport authorities advised passengers to check flight status with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airport, although they maintained that the situation had largely returned to normal.
